THE FUTURE OF VOLVO

My vision for the future of Volvo

Volvo will be an incredible and innovative influence in many design disciplines (auto, furniture, interior, materials, product, etc...). Volvo’s efforts in sustainability will continue to increase and they will lead not only the automotive market, but others as well.

Through customisation, consciousness, collaboration, and community Volvo can become one of the most influential brands in design.

Through a shared ownership model and a modular interior vehicles can be completely customised for the customer down to the smallest detail

Similar to a flat/home rental, customers lease the exterior of the vehicle monthly with all of the necessary components including maintenance services on a flexible contract.
(Volvo Care)

The interior pieces, what makes the vehicle truly personal, are all bought by the customers.

All Volvo furniture and accessories can fit in any of their vehicles, through a modular interior structure, should customers decide to change models. People’s collections are meant to grow over time and move with them as their life changes.

If Volvo continues to push forward with conscious sustainability as one of its core values, they will lead the market with innovative eco materials and a closed loop business system.

All of the materials used to make the interior furniture and accessories are 100% eco-friendly with a majority of them being zero-waste, while the others are recycled.

Some of the materials include:
Plant waste, mushroom leather, bio-plastic, flax fibres, nano-cellulose fibreboard, natural resin, coffee waste, textile remnants, and algae waste.

They are all extremely durable and capable materials that have undergone multiple tests and countless hours of research.
Interior:
. 1 Volvo partners with local brands and individuals to design innovative products with eco materials
. 2 Materials are created out of waste (most is from food and plant waste)
    . 3 Products are made
. 4 Customers buy furniture and accessories for their interior both in-store and online
. 5 Furniture and accessories are multi-functional with the ability to be used in homes and other interior spaces
. 6 At the end of their lives, products are sent back to Volvo where bio-material will decompose and regrown and other materials are recycled.

Exterior:
. 1 Engineering and design teams create new ways to incorporate scrap/recycled materials for the vehicle’s body.
    . 2. Volvo’s team creates a new vehicle
. 3 Customer signs a lease for their vehicle and Volvo Care service
. 4 Tech software is updated regularly
. 5 Volvo Care maintains the vehicle monthly so it will have a longer life-span, and stay in tip top shape
. 6 Several customers will have leased the vehicle over its lifespan
If Volvo collaborates with local brands, designers, schools, and research facilities there is no limit to how much they can accomplish.

In order for Volvo to be a leader in furniture, interior, and product design they will need to collaborate with local businesses and designers. This not only allows them to expand their range and produce a larger quantity of products, but it also allows more opportunities for the brand and collaborators to grow.

Some of the best materials and systems are discovered at universities and labs around the world. If Volvo collaborates with a few of them, starting off local, then they could increase research power and innovation.

Volvo can make a big difference by engaging with customers on a personal level and bringing together brands/designers at events.

Through the shared ownership model and unique customisation system, Volvo and its customers are held accountable to one another to increase the lifespan of their vehicle/components and ultimately help the environment as much as possible.

Through events, Volvo can expose its customers to new brands, products, and materials in a way that is really only seen in fashion and a handful of other areas of design. It brings a social and inspirational aspect to the brand, not to mention it helps other brands/designers.
